The Texas Showdown Series is grounded in the shared ethos of bikepacking and the community-driven rules that shape it. A fair and level playing field is essential to the integrity of these events—for every rider, past, present, and future. We ask all participants to uphold that standard through their actions out on course.
Lowdown – is a bikepacking ride with designated campsites for participants. It is most certainly not a race and your time is not tracked. This event is a solo-self-supported bikepacking ride where you will be expected to carry everything you need to complete the ride, be able to fix your bike, and rely on resources that are on route and available to every other rider. Of course, there is no penalty for breaking any of these “rules”, but we ask that participants adhere to the spirit of this event and of bikepacking at large.
Slowdown & Showdown – These two events follow the golden rule of bikepack racing…Solo, Self-supported, and they WILL be enforced. The golden rule encapsulates the rules and spirt of bikepack racing, do it yourself. However, there is still room for ambiguity so we’ve created a guideline to follow:
1. CORE PRINCIPLE
Texas Showdown Series events are based on the principle of:
Solo. Self-Supported. Do It Yourself.
Riders are responsible for completing the route under their own power using only what they carry and what is available to all participants along the route.
Any action that provides an advantage not reasonably available to all riders is considered outside the spirit of the event.
2. EVENT FORMAT
LOWDOWN
The Lowdown is a non-competitive bikepacking ride.
- Time is not tracked
- No official results are recorded
- Riders are expected to follow the spirit of self-supported riding
No penalties are enforced. However, conduct during the Lowdown may be considered for future event participation.
SLOWDOWN & SHOWDOWN
These are competitive events.
- All rules apply equally to both categories
- Riders are expected to adhere to the Core Principle at all times

If a rider breaks a rule and gains an unfair advantage, they will be disqualified from the results.
